Description :

: Local NGO

Deadline: 5 September 2021

Description

A local health organisation is seeking a Legal Consultant to produce a media tool kit and facilitate a media forum on decriminalisation of HIV. The role is focused on the creation of a media toolkit and conducting a two-and-a-half-hour media forum.

Background

The organisation seeks to build the capacity of media practitioners to effectively report on law reform and criminalisation of HIV. The capacity of media practitioners to report on law development and reform issues around criminalisation of HIV transmission in Zimbabwe will go a long way towards correcting myths and misconceptions around HIV transmission and management. Knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and practices that aid fear, stigma, and discrimination of PLHIV continue to hold back progress in the HIV response. The organisation is implementing a small project that will cultivate progressive and rights-based knowledge and attitudes towards decriminalisation of HIV. Media practitioners are key actors in facilitating this response and cover knowledge gaps in communities and among key stakeholders in the HIV response.

Key responsibilities and timelines

The legal consultant is expected to conduct research and compile a media tool kit that informs on best practices for human rights-based reporting with fairness, integrity, respect, and accuracy. This task must be completed over a period of two weeks, with a working time frame of 5 working days. The legal consultant is also expected to facilitate a two and a half hours forum of media practitioners.

Experience for the legal consultancy

The legal consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of experience working on human rights-related work and health law with experience in related litigation. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
