About the job:

 The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Networked Systems and Applications impact area, within the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The purpose of the Internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience by providing information technology and business systems support to the research and development team in the wireless telecommunications systems and networks within the Spectrum Access and Management Innovation (SAMI) research group. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

• Gather business and systems requirements from the small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) supported by the CSIR;
• Provide business analysis support to the SMMEs;
• Document business analysis requirements;
• Conduct wireless communication system testing;
• Provide support to the project management office;
• Support the team with the procurement function;
• Conduct hardware, firmware and embedded Linux development and implementation;
• Conduct site visits to the supported SMMEs;
• Read, write and understand technical documents, manuals, specifications and business documents; and
• Conduct research and produce a technical report on different wireless communication technologies.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• A National Diploma in information technology with a stream focusing in Business Applications; 
• Familiarity with wireless networking technologies/standards;
• Ability to write and read technical reports;
• Be willing to undertake long-distance field trips to rural areas in South Africa when there is a need; 
• Applicants must be South African citizens; and
• Preference will be given to Female.
• All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
