Background


A local organization seeks the services of a Finance Graduate Intern. The organization conducts humanitarian and development interventions to address the various challenges in the country. The organization seeks to expand these programmes and develop new ones considering the developmental needs of the country.


Position objective


The objective of this internship is to give a recent finance or accounting graduate experience in the practical aspects of finance and accounting practices and procedures at the organization and beyond. The graduate intern will assist to provide program financial management support in line with financial policies, procedures and contractual agreements with partners.


Duties and responsibilities


Review and ensure all acquittals have been verified and cleared with finance department in a timely manner; Data capturing in pastel system and filing; Assist in development of partners budgets; Support programs team in verifying documents accuracy and adequacy against budgets for submission of float requests and payments to the Projects Finance officer; Provide programs support by assisting them cut down on expenses on budgets before a workshop / activity, negotiating with service providers for discounts to ensure value for money; Ensure that all procurement requests from head office and all regional offices are properly documented, vouchers for payments and other supportive documents are submitted timeously for filing; Conduct regular performance assessments and reviews of suppliers and service providers to ensure they are working within the organisation’s standards and objectives and delivering the services expected; Review / monitor program activities to ascertain whether they are consistent with established objectives and whether they are being carried out as planned; Evaluate the adequacy of the system of internal controls and recommend improvements


Educational qualifications


Minimum of a university degree in Accounting, Banking or any related field.

Positive attitude, good team player, flexible mind, comfortable working in a dynamic organization; Strong time-management skills and excellent ability to adhere to tight deadlines; Demonstrate ability to work proactively, independently, and in a small team; Well-organized and sound judgment; Fluency in English and excellent English drafting skills; Competency in office software including excel.
