Aids Counselling Trust (ACT) is a non-profit organisation that was registered under the Private Voluntary Act on 7 June, 1989. The vision of ACT is a Zimbabwe whose citizens are empowered and participating meaningfully in all developmental processes while enjoying their rights and a life of dignity. The organisation’s mission is to strengthen the capacity of vulnerable communities to respond to development issues including HIV & AIDS. ACT implements its programmes based on the Rights Based Approach. In order to successfully implement its programmes, ACT is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Driver/Messenger based in Harare. The successful candidate will be employed on a fixed term contract for an initial period of 9 months. Continuity of employment will be based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.



Duties And Responsibilities


Expected duties

To drive ACT vehicles as per ACT’s policies and procedures, the Road Traffic Act of Zimbabwe and other applicable rules and regulations, instructions and guidelines; To ensure that ACT vehicles are clean all the time to make them hospitable to passengers and maintain the image of ACT; To undertake daily checks on vehicles as per the ACT Vehicle Policy to ensure that they are roadworthy all the time so that there are no disruptions to business activities due to preventable faults; To advise the designated supervisor when the vehicle is due for service and plan for the servicing of the vehicle to avoid disruptions of activities due to preventable faults; To run errands as instructed by the designated supervisor and any other senior officer; Conduct vehicle handover checks at all times when vehicles are exchanged and report any noted anomalies promptly; Update the logbook after every trip; List all vehicle defects before submitting for service; Ensure that in the event of an accident, ACT Policies and Procedures and the Road Traffic Act guidelines are followed; Other office duties such as banking, photocopying, scanning and filing; Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.




Qualifications and Experience

5 O’ Levels including English; Clean Class 4 Driver’s License; Defensive Driving certificate; At least 5 years’ experience as a Driver, preferably in the NGO sector; Sound knowledge of road safety regulations; Administrative Qualifications is an added advantage; Working knowledge of local roads and routes; The ability to utilize maps and car manuals; Effective communication skills; Good time management skills; Punctual, honest and reliable.
