Main Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Child Protection Manager the Disability Social Worker will be situated in the Disability and Child Protection section of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children department. The incumbent will support the organization by providing support to government departments for enhanced access to preventive and responsive child protection services by children with disabilities and their families through the National Case Management system in line with the Zimbabwe National Action Plan for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The Social Worker will also support preventive and responsive Sexual Gender-Based Violence Services to adolescents and young women with disabilities and be responsible for the supervision of Graduate Social Workers and Social Worker Interns in their region of operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Implementation: Work closely with the Department of Development in providing age and gender appropriate child protection services to children with disabilities; Supporting Social Workers and Social Work interns in implementing preventive and responsive child protection services to children with disabilities and their circles of care; Supporting caregivers, families, and communities to establish and maintain active, surveillance, reporting of child protection violations against children with disabilities; Coordinate access to specialized justice services by children with disabilities and their families; Facilitate specialized Psychosocial Support to Children with Disabilities and circles of care; Coordinate with Department of Social Developments to link children with disabilities and their families to Social Protection Interventions; Provide mentorship to key stakeholders on the management of cases of Children with disabilities in targeted districts using the National Case Management framework; Facilitate mentorship of community cadres to provide timeous and quality child protection services to CWD and their circles of care; Facilitate program level linkages between disability and child protection interventions and Sexual Gender Based Violence services targeting children and adolescents with disabilities; Provide support to DSS to coordinate access to justice services by children; Ensure clear communication between the organization the Department of Social Welfare, other government departments and other CSO partners in targeted districts. Provision of administrative support of program activities.

Work Planning: Submit timely and realistic work plans (Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly) in line with the organizational annual work plan; Timeous communication of planning deviations with line Manager

Reporting: Ensure that activity reports are compiled and submitted timeously by all Social Workers in their region in line with organizational reporting guidelines; Facilitate the timely compiling and submission of Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reports to the Child Protection Manager; Compile statistical data and draft appropriate reports on activities conducted in their region as provided by the organizational reporting guidelines; Analyze the project implementation and prevailing trends and provide constructive written feedback to the Child Protection Manager.

Supervision and Support: Support other Social Workers in providing child protection services to Children with Disabilities and their families; Supervise graduate Social workers and provide mentorship on Child Protection and disability in line with organizational policy and strategy.

Program Development: Under the supervision of the Child Protection Manager, actively contribute to new innovations in Child Protection and Disability; Actively contribute to documenting best practices and emerging models in Child Protection and Disability; Contribute to the development of training manuals.

Administrative and Other Duties: Submit timely financial and transport requests and ensure the availability of program supplies for smooth flow of activities; Timely acquittal of requested resources in line with organizational finance policy; Adherence to organizational Information Technology Policy.

Qualification, Knowledge, and Skills Requirements

Degree in Social Work from a reputable university; Master’s degree in social work or any development field desirable; At least 6 years demonstrable experience in Child Protection and Disability at District, Provincial or National level; Demonstrable ability to provide technical support and guidance on Child Protection and disability internally and externally; Ability to plan and implement activities across the multiple facets of Child Protection and Disability; Demonstrated ability and maturity to plan and coordinated field activities and supervise field teams; Flexibility to travel within the assigned region and beyond (up to 3 weeks travel in a month) and to work in remote areas; Demonstrated ability for consensus building in a team setup and ability to work with minimal supervision; Proven experience and maturity to make program decisions grounded in technical knowledge and expertise in assigned region; Should be computer literate (Microsoft word and excel); Proven ability to lead program operations while maintaining clear communication channels with external partners and stakeholders while grounded in guidance from management.
