INTERNSHIP PROGRAM  IDLO internship programs are designed to provide a mutually beneficial relationship between IDLO and university students, young graduates, post-graduate students, or persons similarly situated (collectively referred to as Interns). IDLO offers interns an exceptional learning experience in an international organization and increases their awareness and knowledge of legal issues in the development arena. Internships also benefit IDLO by allowing participants to contribute their skills and competencies to the realization of IDLO’s strategic goals and mission. Interns are fully involved in the work program of the Unit or Department that has selected them to carry out assignments relevant to their studies and experiences under the supervision of IDLO staff. IDLO provides all full time interns with a monthly stipend of €300. This specific internship is for 3 months and is renewable up to a maximum of 6 months. THE INTERNSHIP With funds from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Counterterrorism, IDLO is implementing a 24-month project entitled “Supporting the Somali Justice Institutions to Combat Complex Crimes in Somalia”. The overall Project goal is to strengthen the capacity of justice sector actors to prosecute, defend and adjudicate complex crimes. This Project addresses ways in which IDLO can collaborate with Somali government institutions in building on its existing programs by ensuring that the work undertaken by justice sector actors translates into effective prosecution and adjudication that is consistent with national and international human rights standards. A Criminal Justice Intern is sought for an interesting professional learning opportunity to contribute to the work of the Complex Crimes Project with an immediate start.  Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and in collaboration with relevant colleagues, the intern will be asked to support the unit with the following duties: Support the Project Coordinator with program activities, specifically:
  • Assists in the planning of trainings as they relate to building the Somali justice sector and supporting justice institutions;
  • Coordinate the logistics of trainings, including preparing the itinerary and participant lists
  • Be on-site at the training sessions
  • Liaise with government stakeholders
  • Provide administrative support to the Complex Crimes Program and the Project Coordinator, specifically:
    • Completing payment requests and filing documents as needed by the Finance Manager to complete payments under the CCP Program
    • Reach out to relevant stakeholders regarding completing payment requests
    • Working with our Procurement Team to ensure accurate accounting and filing of procurement related needs under the CCP program
    • Attend meetings as requested by the Project Coordinator on behalf of the Project Coordinator or with the Project Coordinator
    • Other similar duties as assigned by Supervisor
    IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE Educational qualifications 
    • Undergraduate level degree or high school diploma preferably in international relations, or law
    • Excellent writing skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    Work experience
    • Experience in and/or understanding of an international organization is desirable but not required
    • 1-2 years of work experience is desirable
    Languages
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Any additional work languages, preferably is an advantage.
    Technical competencies
    • Be willing to work from our IDLO Somalia Offices
    • Familiar with Microsoft Office and Excel
    Behavioral competencies
    • Good team player, positive attitude, flexible mind, comfortable working in multi-cultural settings; and
    • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently, as well as in a small team, and doing so in a well-organized manner and exercising sound judgment.
