Background

Cesvi has been operating in Zimbabwe since 1998 in three key areas; Environment, Agriculture and the Health sector. Cesvi activities in the agricultural sector revolve around supporting rural communities to transform traditional practices from subsistence farming to commercial farming.

Project Scope

Cesvi in Zimbabwe in partnership with Mwenezi Development Training Center (MDTC) is implementing the European Commission supported project ‘Building Resilience Inclusively in Drier Geographic Environments’ for a period of 36 months which started in February 2020. The project will be implemented in Beitbridge district which is in Natural region V with the overall objective of building the resilience of smallholder farmers in drought prone communal areas of Beitbridge district to shocks and stress. The project seeks to increase the participation of CSOs in preventing and mitigating risks and vulnerabilities caused by drought and other climatic conditions. The underlying specific project objective is to strengthen the capacities of key community-based institutions and structures in addressing resilience at community level.

This will be achieved through three interrelated outcomes:(i) Improved management and governance in Irrigation Management Committees (IMCs), District Commodity Associations (DCAs), Disaster Risk Reduction committees and Livestock Development Committees (LDCs) (ii) Improved performance of IMCs, DCAs, DRR Committees and LDCs in the development of resilient AVCs (iii)Enhanced capacity of IMCs, DCAs, DRR Committees and LDCs to influence key policies related to agriculture and resilience. The project will work with private sector partners and incorporate relevant government stakeholders at different levels. In order for us to meet the above, we are urgently recruiting a suitably qualified candidate to fill the following vacancy:

Job summary

Key Responsibilities: Developing and implementing communications strategies & work-plans, events and other initiatives in support of the BRIDGE project and ensuring alignment with Cesvi and donor communications priorities. To serve as the programme information hub for the production and dissemination of value adding programme communication products (internal and external).

Main tasks and responsibilities: Co-design the communications strategy and lead the implementation of the projects’ communication and visibility plan; Support the development of information, education, communication and awareness materials which w will include: developing key messages for each of project activities, designing infographics, posters, brochures; producing short videos; develop education resources for participatory, active training sessions).

Promote the relationship with media: draft press releases, organize relevant media events (visits in the fields), take photos and videos, design, brochures, annual reports for specific audiences; Oversee the roll out of ICT initiatives inclusive of developing an online platform for policy dialogue, market information dissemination and ICT based platform for training; Ensure the appropriate dissemination of communication outputs through various internal and external outlets; Coordinate the designing and production of various manuals and reference materials produced out of BRIDGE project activities

Qualifications, experience and competencies

A Bachelor’s degree in Media, communication and/ or journalism related qualification is preferred; At least 3 years of experience working in a media or a communication agency and/or education field.in designing and producing training materials; Superb verbal and written skills in English; Photo/video shooting and editing skills are appreciated; Excellent graphic design and artistic skills to work on posters, education awareness materials, etc; Experience in producing awareness materials.

Experience in engaging with media and in writing press releases and social media stories are required; Demonstrate experience and competency in the use of Word Processing, SpreadSheets, and desktop publishing software, Photoshop etc; Good interpersonal communication skills thus ability to interact with a variety of people of different cultural backgrounds, classes, genders, age groups and social status; Basic knowledge in local languages (Shona, Venda and/or Ndebele) is highly desirable.
