Introduction

Tag a Life International (TaLI), a Zimbabwean girls and young women's rights organisation invites applications to fill the position or opportunity which has arisen in the organisation.

In partnership with the Embassy of Czech Republic and Identities Media, TaLI intends to train 25 young women and girls of different backgrounds in Citizens Journalism. With the increase in the impact of Covid-19 across our communities, more than ever before has the need become urgent for girls and young women to tell their stories from their own communities. The organisation is seeking a qualified and experienced team leader to train the young women in citizens journalism for 4 days. The trainer must be qualified to train in both the fundamentals of journalism, human rights, women’s rights, governance and accountability, inter-sectionalities with a feminist lens and use storytelling as citizen participation. They should be prepared to be one of the mentors for the next 6 months to help these young women increase their confidence in storytelling.


Skills and competencies

The following Skills and Competences are Required from the Trainer and Editor: A Journalism Qualification of a minimum of a diploma in this field; Journalism and media practise for at least 3 years in an established media house; Understanding of women's rights, human rights, democracy, governance, accountability, inter-sectionalities of all women’s rights and is able to train this with a feminist Lens; Understanding of citizen journalism and ability to train on this; Demonstrable experience in training of citizen journalism; Experience in being a mentor in the media space an added advantage especially working with women and girls; A supporter of women's rights and gender equality; Being able to speak the following three key languages fluently is an added advantage ;English, Ndebele and Shona; Is able to train in storytelling for change; Must have experience and expertise in social media, blogging and online use as this is a critical component of the programme; Must be able to use virtual methods in training as the training will also be online after the initial boot-camp; Should be creative in the use of interactive experimental methods even in online training.


If employed, he/she must be able to take a full week off to be completely available for this assignment.
