Under the supervision of Workshop Foreman, the Auto Electrician for carrying out competently all preventative and planned maintenance activities of all auto electrical jobs on Freightliner Trucks with 100% compliance to company SOPs, to mention but a few. To perform any other duty assigned by the superior.

Duties And Responsibilities

 Carry out Electrical preventative, scheduled maintenance and repair of Freightliner trucks.

 Complete work order documentation for all assigned repair jobs and record all additional repairs and parts and ensure that a checklist has been performed 15 minutes before daily shutdown.

 Carry out Certificate of Fitness (C.O.F) preparations and repairs.

 Diagnose, service and repair electronically controlled Freightliner trucks systems such as electronic fuel injection and ignition, anti-lock braking, cruise control and automatic transmission.

 Repair and install electrical equipment such as alternators, starter motors and batteries.

 Test Freightliner trucks lighting systems such as headlight beam alignment, lighting intensity and fit additional lighting components such as fog lights or emergency lights to ensure they are operating correctly.

 Liaise with the stores for any arising jobs that require purchase of parts as required.

 Timely report back on any additional work that may affect dispatch.

 Diligently complete pre trip inspections following up by completing inspection sheets and job cards to ensure that work completed is captured and recorded in a logical manner to facilitate Cost per Unit Review and Trend Analysis.

 Attend to breakdowns immediately as they happen and ensure that tasks are completed with zero redo.

 Perform any other duties in line with the above as assigned by the superior

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 National Certificate in Auto Electrics,

 Apprentice Trained Journeyman Auto Electric with 5 years’ post qualification experience working with heavy vehicles preferably in Freightliner trucks i.e Detroit (DDEC IV,V,VI), Cummins(N14 and ISX).

 Ability to read and interpret user manuals correctly,

 Good trouble shooting and problem-solving skills with high knowledge in today’s computer controlled diagnostic systems, engine fuel and ignition, ABS braking and transmission functions.

 A team player with good communication skills,

 Clean Class 4 or 2 Drivers License a must.

 Must be mature and able to work under pressure with little or no supervision.
