Communications Assistant Job Description


Introduction A local organization that works towards unity, peace, justice, and prosperity in Zimbabwe seeks the services of a Communications Assistant (CA) to support its work. The work is part of a bigger programme that covers thematic areas on social cohesion and peacebuilding, inclusive and just economies, active citizenship and good governance, youth empowerment and participation, and disability inclusion. The Communications Assistant will play a key role in supporting the attainment of the organization’s goals through enhanced visibility and brand management. The position shall undertake general communication tasks under the guidance of the programme officers with the following deliverables:


Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with Project officers to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on target audience and projects activities.

2. Write, edit, design and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, presentations, speeches, posters, banners, weekly e-newsletter, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services in collaboration with thematic pillars and regional offices.

3. Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, media stakeholders and maintain a media database.

4. Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.

5. Support regional offices in content creation and development of weekly social media updates,

6. Coordinate all social media engagement and multimedia campaigns,

7. Assist in the development of organizational public statements, these include, press statements,

preparation of press conferences etc,

8. Facilitates communication trainings that promote digital literacy and active citizenry to the targeted beneficiaries and staff members,

9. Servicing of all organizational social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Website and Instagram accounts


Deliverables

 A weekly and quarterly Newsletter,

 Daily uploading of content on the Website and social media platforms,

 Compile, coordinate, edit and disseminate stories of significant change,

 Pictorial reports for the programmes and projects,

 Robust social media campaigns

 Produce at least one themed documentary per quarter,

 Produce monthly media monitoring reports,



Experience and qualifications

 Bachelors’ degree in Communications, Media studies, journalism or related fields,

 Knowledge of desktop publishing software’s or programs (Canvas, photoshop),

 Excellent in graphic design, video and photo editing,

 Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills,

 Good time management and public engagement skills,

 Excellent in using Microsoft Office, social media platforms, content management systems

 Minimum of at least one years’ experience in communications work.


Remuneration: Remuneration and other benefits will be disclosed to selected candidates.

Start Date: Successful candidate is expected to start immediately.
