The African Awareness of Cancer and Early Diagnosis (AWACAN-ED) project has been awarded an NIHR Global Research Group grant to improve early diagnosis of cancer in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project aims to answer important questions about how to encourage appropriate help-seeking behaviour among people with possible cancer symptoms and how to deliver high-quality, accessible, and equitable cancer referral and diagnosis services.


AWACAN-ED research team seeks to appoint experienced, suitably trained, competent, talented, multi-tasking, self-motivated and qualified applicants to fill the position of Field Workers. The incumbents will be based in Harare, Bulawayo, Marondera, Gwanda & Karanda as part of the team supporting the AWACAN-ED study. This is a full-time one-year contract position, renewable on a yearly basis for 4 years subject to good performance.


Job description

Conduct qualitative data collection (focus group discussions, in-depth interviews). Conduct quantitative data collection (surveys). Ensure collected data is accurately recorded and interpreted. Conduct quality assurance and quality control of survey questionnaires. Ensure privacy and confidentiality of respondents and develop a relationship of trust and safe space during data collection exercise with respondents. Identify and report any challenges faced that could affect the quality of the data. Provide daily updates to the Field Coordinator on data collection progress. Participate in regular study meetings. Any other duties assigned by the Field Coordinator.


Qualifications

A minimum degree in Social Science, Nursing, or related field. At least 3 years’ experience in field work collecting qualitative and quantitative data. Experience in health research. Excellent interpersonal & presentation skills and ability to work in a team. Valid certificate in Research Ethics / Good Clinical Practice. Proficiency in MS Office packages and other relevant programs. Fluency in English, excellent writing interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with Government structures will be an added advantage.
