job Description

The Electrical Technician at British American Tobacco (BAT) is responsible for executing planned and corrective maintenance on electrical and electronic systems, including PLCs, factory instrumentation, and pneumatic systems. The primary objective is to ensure maximum equipment and utilities availability, along with maintaining the functionality of interlocks.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Troubleshoot and perform repairs on production lines to minimize factory downtime.
-Conduct planned maintenance on electrical plant equipment/utilities such as vacuum pumps, boilers, compressors, generators, HV panels, and Voltage Stabilisers.
-Perform a monthly audit on safety interlocks, addressing any necessary repairs.
-Execute preventive maintenance on electrical components to reduce spare parts costs.
-Conduct electrical installations, overhaul, and commissioning following BAT Co guidelines and regulatory standards.
-Check motors for proper operation and service them in case of malfunction.
-Work on radioactive mean weight control equipment during repairs or routine maintenance adhering to safety standards.
-Ensure proper housekeeping by adhering to 5S principles in electrical workshops, cabinets, catalogues, manuals, and workplaces.
-Maintain accurate daily records/reports of work done.

Qualifications and Experience

-Minimum of 5 years of experience in a factory setting in a similar position within a manufacturing environment.
-Electrical operator with demonstrated Preventive Maintenance skills, capable of carrying out machine installations and troubleshooting on equipment like Protos, GD, or KDF in SMD, including service and utility equipment.

Technical/Functional/Leadership Skills Required:
-Ensure all machines are safe to operate and properly maintained.
-Adhere to production schedules/plans to ensure products are produced according to the plan.
-Lead in Cost Control through optimal spares usage and downtime reduction.
-Conduct Cleaning, Inspection & Lubrication Audits.
-Demonstrate positive leadership attributes, serving as a role model for managers, peers, and Technical Operators.
-Actively participate and lead (where applicable) IWS activities and initiatives to contribute to team success.
-Lead problem resolution through Gap analysis and troubleshooting using problem-solving and improvement tools.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications Required:
-Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering/Instrumentation or equivalent.
-Previous experience in the tobacco industry is preferred.
