Director, Works and Estates
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the Director of Works and Estates holds a crucial role in the development and implementation of the University's Campus Development Plans.
-Manage the development of designs, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with design regulations and user requirements.
-Liaise with experts and external organizations on issues related to the physical development of the University.
-Oversee construction works, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
-Monitor projects to ensure they progress according to set timelines.
-Budgetary planning and control in alignment with University financial regulations.
-Oversee the procurement of materials and spares for University buildings and infrastructure.
-Manage the preparation and negotiation of contracts, leases, deeds, and other property legal documents.
-Ensure contractual obligations with contractors are met.
-Manage the maintenance of buildings, site infrastructure (electrical, sewer, and water reticulation), roads, sporting and recreation facilities, and grounds.
-Recommend the acquisition and disposal of real estate properties.
-Manage human resources activities, including recruitment and selection, staff development, and performance management in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
-Service University Committee meetings.
-A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Civil and Water Engineering/Civil Engineering or equivalent.
-Possession of a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and/or a Certificate in Project Management is an added advantage.
-At least 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience, with three years at the managerial level.
-Membership of the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe or the Institute of Engineers.
