Ikhotheme iNkosi| Zulu Kingdom Mourns Death Of Their King Goodwill Zwelithini kaButhelezi
Tradition still holds that Nguni Kings do not die, but instead go on a deep sleep – ukukhothama, in isiZulu.
Such has been the case of the now orphaned kingdom of KwaZulu.
King Goodwill Zwelithini kaButhelezi has sadly died after a long struggle with diabetes.
He died in the early morning hours of Friday, the kingdom’s spokesperson, Mangosuthu Buthelezi said in a statement.
“It is with the utmost grief that I inform the nation of the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu, King of the Zulu Nation.
“Tragically, while still in hospital, His Majesty’s health took a turn for the worse and he subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning,” a statement read.
A few weeks ago after he was admitted in hospital, rumours spread that the King had died.
The monarch furiously denied these claims and insisted that the king was doing better.
King Goodwill was then discharged from hospital last Friday where he was taken to his home.
His tragic death has attracted a myrad of condolence messages across the globe.

I’m deeply saddened by the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini.
I had the honour of knowing the King, and recall a visit he paid to my factory when I was a younger entrepreneur. I admired him greatly.
My condolences to his family, and the Zulu Nation.
May he rest in peace 🕯 pic.twitter.com/O1lW4d0YyH
