2020 has been indeed a horrible year for most people, and this has been made worse with the news that veteran actor, theatre legend and radio broadcaster, Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa has died. The legendary actor who played the role of ‘Malome Josias‘ on popular SABC 1 soapie Skeem Saam died on Tuesday evening. His cause of death is yet to be made public.

The sad news was confirmed by Rapetsoa’s son, Matome on Tuesday evening. In a terse statement on Facebook, Matome Rapetsoa wrote,

“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, brother and colleague Mr Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa. “Bra Paul” passed away today at 18:56. May your wonderful soul rest in peace Mokwena,”

The popular SABC1 soapie also confirmed the sad news on social media.

“We approach the end of 2020 with heavy hearts,” tweeted Skeem Saam.

“Rest In Peace Bra Paul, you will forever be remembered and sorely missed. We keep his family in our prayers,” the tweet continued.

Rapetsoa who is widely regarded as the “the father of township theatre,” mentored the late Charles “Big Boy” Maja who sadly died in April. Rapetsoa was heartbroken at the passing of his protege. Speaking to the Sowetan at the time, Rapetsoa said,

“As a trained stage actor myself, I taught Charles [that] in radio dramas you are act like [you would] in a stage or TV show. He was always hungry to learn. Even when he got a job in Skeem Saam he told me. His death is a big loss to our industry.”

Tributes have been pouring in for the legendary actor from many people in the acting and entertainment industry,
