A formal rape case has been opened against DJ Fresh and Euphonik following allegations made on social media against the two.

The police in Gauteng have confirmed that they have opened a formal rape case against DJ Fresh (real name Thato Sikwane) and DJ Euphonik (real name Themba Nkosi).

This comes after the two well-known radio personalities were accused of drugging and raping a university student at a party back in 2011.

The alleged victim made a series of posts on social media platform Twitter in which she accused the pair of raping her and laughing about it afterwards. She went on to say that at the time of the alleged rape she was still a virgin and that she is now taking anti-anxiety medication due to the trauma.

The woman who uses the screen name Sipelele Madikizela wrote,

@DJFreshSA & @euphonik will you ever acknowledge drunking me & further raping me? I was completed drugged I don’t whether you BOTH raped me or 1 of you did & you later laughed about it the next morning saying we (me & 3 girls) were so drunk we kept blacking out but nasidlwengula

Just so you know? I was a virgin when y’all did that to me.

I had to take anxiety meds to even tweet this 😭

According to TshisaLive, the alleged victim who requested that her name should not be published lodged a rape complaint against DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik at Sunnyside police station on January 13. The police opened a formal rape case against the two DJs and the matter is currently being investigated.

Police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo confirmed to the publication that the police have indeed opened a formal rape case against the two popular entertainers.

“As per case the number you provided, I can confirm a case of rape was opened at Sunnyside police station and is under investigation. No arrests have been made,” he said.

According to TshisaLIVE, one of the artists (it is unclear as to who) refuted the rape allegations when he was approached for comment after the allegations were made. He is reported to have said that the allegations against him were “false” and “spurious.”

“I am aware assertions have been made about me on social media and I understand this is often the price of being in the public eye. The fact that these claims are untrue and from an unknown source does not make them less hurtful…”

The other DJ did not comment on the issue.

Both DJ Fresh and Euphonik are employed by music radio station 947 which is owned by Primedia Broadcasting. Acting CEO of Primedia Broadcasting Geraint Crwys-Williams released a statement saying that the organisation would respond accordingly to the allegations after evaluating all the information.

“We take these matters extremely seriously and apply a rigorous, systematic internal process to assess them. We are awaiting substantiation of the current information from the relevant authorities. Once we have this, we will respond accordingly.”
