Congratulations are in order for Playboi Carti!

The Atlanta rapper just got his first No. 1 Billboard 200 album. According to Billboard, the 24-year-old’s highly-anticipated ‘Whole Lotta Red’ topped the chart. The Georgia native’s third album charted with over 100,000 total album-equivalent units earned in its opening week.

The album’s sales were mostly driven by streaming, earning more than 90,000 streaming equivalent album units thanks to 126 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs. The album was released on the 22nd of December. Carti officially holds the title of being the first artist to have a No.1 album in 2021. The Chart data tweeted, “Billboard 200: #1(new) @playboicarti, Whole Lotta Red 100,000 [126.43 million streams].”

The eclectic album received an 8.3 rating from Pitchfork. The writer commented that the album is, “hard, melodic, experimental, and unlike anything else happening in mainstream rap.” Fans have offered mixed reviews of ‘Whole Lotta Red’.

Carti’s previous Billboard chart-topping project was 2018’s platinum-selling ‘Die Lit’. It landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart with 61,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week. Before then he reached No. 12 on the chart with his self-titled debut mixtape released in 2017.

This is positive news for the rapper who’s recently made headlines for his relationship with Iggy Azalea. Carti’s shares a son with the ‘fancy’ rapper, however, she’s not his number one fan. As previously reported Iggy took to social media to blast Carti for being an absentee father. She also shared that he cheated on her and hadn’t signed the Onyx’s birth certificate.

After Iggy’s rant, Carti took to social media on Sunday with posts of him with their son in the studio. The 24-year-old rapper captioned the video post, “stUDio > bABY mE.”
