Project Coordinator

Location: Manicaland Program Area

Job Description

Reporting to the Program Area Manager, the role of the Project Coordinator is to provide strategic and sound technical guidance to enable the sound implementation of the Promoting Education, Skills and an Enabling Environment for Ending Child Marriages (PROSE – ECM) and the University of Cape Town Parenting for Lifelong Health Research. The Project Coordinator will work in close collaboration with Plan International Germany and the research team from the University of Cape Town and is also expected to represent Plan International in external networks to develop strategic relationships with stakeholders, including government officials, legislators, UN agencies and development partner staff to position Plan International as an influential leader in ending child marriages. Thus, the incumbent is also expected to keep up to date with developments in Zimbabwe and in the region to end child marriages.

Accountabilities

  •  Responsible for effective and efficient management of the project in Manicaland PA
  •  Ensures the implementation of the PROSE – ECM and UCT Research, including detailed planning, execution and monitoring in line with the approved project proposals, donor contracts and also in consultation with key internal and external stakeholders
    • Conducts day to day tracking of planned activities, budget advances and actual expenditure and implementation
    •  Ensures collaboration, coordination and communication with the National Office
    •  Develops a system for generating evidence, capturing, documenting and disseminating project experiences, achievements, lessons learnt and best practices to internal and external stakeholders
    •  Prepares and submits quality and timely project reports in line with donor regulations
    •  Initiates, develops and nurture relations with relevant government agencies both central and local government levels and the wider stakeholder fraternity.
    •  Represents Plan International at relevant provincial level stakeholder forums and consultative sessions, or conferences related to child marriage, education and gender work
    •  Ensures key stakeholders are kept informed of project activities as appropriate (e.g. National Office, government authorities etc.)
    •  Organizes and holds regular review meetings to assess progress and to agree on and communicate any changes in strategy with the key project stakeholders.
    •  Ensures that child protection measures are in place and followed in all activities;

    Community mobilization and coordination

    •  Coordinates project design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in the assigned area of operation
    •  Coordinates effective participation of children, families, communities and stakeholders in programming activities
    •  Coordinates the integration of program and sponsorship activities in the field.
    •  Strengthening of existing local groups in the PA to ensure the sustainability of children rights activities

    Networking

    •  Establish good working relations with children, families, community leadership, and community-based organizations (CBOs), government extension staff and other stakeholders at district and provincial levels.
    •  Participate in stakeholder meetings and networks at district and provincial levels
    •  Ensure all relevant authorities are included in the planning and implementation of child marriage project activities as appropriate.

    Sponsorship Integration activities

    •  Creates community awareness on development and effects on education.
    •  Promotes integration of program processes at district and field level
    •  Promotes child rights based programming at district and field level

    Other key deliverables including: Adherence to Plan policies, including:

    •  Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding of Children & Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    •  University Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or related discipline from a recognized institute.
    •  Knowledge of Gender and Child rights issues in Zimbabwe.
    •  Additional qualifications in program management, report writing and social/community development
    •  At least 3 years practical experience in working with rural communities in community development work.
    •  Ability to work in teams, communicate and coordinate with government departments and other development agencies at district level
    •  Understanding of integrated development issues and critical analysis of child poverty & protection.
    •  Knowledge of strategic planning processes and theories of child-rights programming
    •  Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development
    •  A valid class 3 or 4 Drivers license.
    •  Gender sensitive
