The Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy at the University of Pennsylvania is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to the study of democratic institutions and practices. The centre is named after Andrea Mitchell, a 1967 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and an award-winning journalist who has covered politics and foreign policy for NBC News for over four decades.

The centre was established in 2004 and is part of the Penn Program on Democracy, Citizenship, and Constitutionalism (DCC), which is housed in the School of Arts and Sciences. The centre supports research, teaching, and public engagement on a range of topics related to democracy, including the role of the media, the functioning of political institutions, and the challenges facing democratic governance.

The centre also hosts a number of events throughout the year, including lectures, workshops, and conferences, featuring leading scholars and public figures. It also offers research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in studying democratic theory and practice.

In addition to its research and academic activities, the centre is also committed to public engagement and civic education. It provides resources and support for members of the Penn community who want to engage in public discourse and participate in democratic institutions and practices.

The Andrea Mitchell Centre for the Study of Democracy is set to award fellowships for undergraduate research starting in the summer of 2023 until the end of the 2023-2024 academic year. The Penn CURF Andrea Mitchell Centre Undergraduate Research Grants are open to both US citizens and non-US nationals. Students can apply for grants of up to $3,000 to cover research expenses, and it is permissible to supplement the grant with funds from other programs.
