Qualifications

  • B-Tech / BSc Honours Degree or an equivalent in the relevant field plus

Five (4) years of laboratory experience in a tertiary institution, research institute or relevant industry.

  • Or Higher National Diploma in the relevant field plus seven (6) years relevant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development of lab policies, strategies and new lab test procedures.
  • Upgrading of laboratory technologies, techniques, skills and protocols        whenever required as well as maintain and repair equipment.
  • Preparation of annual progress of the laboratory and implement laboratory safety and quality control.
  • Maintaining laboratory inventory and coordinate purchasing of all laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Offering technical assistance to students and lecturers in research and innovation work.
  • Preparation and running of practicals.
  • Operation of relevant instruments.

Qualifications

The following selection criteria will be applied in selecting the candidate:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree aligned to the area of specialization with at least a 2.1 pass grade
  • A relevant Master’s degree aligned to the area of specialization (preference is given to those with a merit or better)
  • A PhD degree aligned to the area of specialization
  • Evidence of published research in the relevant field of consistent research output in credible peer-reviewed journals 
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level of at least 3 years
  • Effective team player, with good interpersonal skills and coordination skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain networks with various stakeholders relevant to the smooth running of the department’s programs

Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate must be capable of supervising Masters and Doctoral level students’ research work and teach at least three (3) modules in any of the following:

POST: SYSTEMS ANALYST X1 POST (GWERU CAMPUS)

DESCRIPTION:

The Systems Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Library’s hardware infrastructure and software applications including but not limited to the integrated library system, the e-resource access and authentication system, digital repository frameworks, and a variety of web applications used by the Library.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • BSc Computer Science / Computer Engineering /Systems Engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience in programming, systems development, or software development.
  • The incumbent’s dissertation should be on Systems Development and Design.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and manages technology-based library systems.
  • Analysing existing library IT-based systems and processes and identifying areas of improvement.
  • Develop and implement technology solutions to address identified issues.
  • Provides technical support for all the Library’s information technology requirements and ensures high-quality services.
  • Designs and maintains the library website.
  • Ensures security of all library data.
  • Supervises the daily operations of the Library computer systems, such as the Integrated Library Management System, the Institutional Repository, the e-resource access and authentication system (EZproxy), the security system and other library systems.
  • Act as the library’s liaison with software suppliers and agencies to maintain and develop the library’s provision of computer-based systems.
  • Monitors industry trends and maintain currency on emerging issues related to computer systems and applications in libraries and advises the head of the department on improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Train library staff and students on new IT technologies and trends
  • Ensure that the library has functional IT hardware and networking infrastructure
  • Monitors functionality of all library security systems.
  • Maintain documentation, including system configurations, technical procedures, and user guides.
  • Create social media platforms for marketing library resources and services.
  • Supervises staff on weekend duty.
  • Liaise with the ICT department on behalf of the library.
  • Participate in library training programs.
  • Monitors the library reprographic unit.
  • Servicing University Committees as assigned.
  • May be redeployed to any university campus as and when necessary.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • A high level of technical expertise and broad knowledge of hardware and software applications.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in using modern database management systems such as Mysql and Navicat.
  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of programming languages such as Python, C++ and PHP.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with staff, and students.
  • Familiarity with library technologies and systems, including integrated library systems and electronic resource management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Senior Assistant Librarian is responsible for supporting staff and students in a particular Faculty by providing access to relevant library resources and teaching information literacy skills.  They also manage the Faculty’s library collections, oversee the Library’s services and operations, and engage in scholarly and professional activities to enhance the Library’s service.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • BSc Degree in Library and Information Science

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide research and reference services to faculty members, students, and library users.
  • Provide one-on-one research consultations to faculty members and students, and assist with developing research strategies and finding relevant resources.
  • Plan and conduct information literacy instruction sessions for classes and groups of students, both in-person and online.
