Itumelang Khune’s Sister Mapula Burnt Beyond Recognition In Horrific Fire

 

 

In a sad development, Mapula Khune the sister of Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumelang Khune died when she was burnt beyond recognition. The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

The death occured in Tshing, Extension 2, Vensterdorp at Khune’s grandmother’s house. While the details on the events which led up to the fire are yet to be revealed, a source close to the family said that Mapula was the victim of an attack. The source told the Daily Sun that Khune’s sister was sleeping in an outdoor room that was attacked by an intruder. The source told the publication,

“It is not the main house that was burnt down, but an outdoor room where Mapula was sleeping. The incident happened at their grandmother’s house in Venterdorp in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

“Everyone was there when the incident happened. They called the police around 4 am when they realised the room was on fire. When the police arrived, she was burned beyond recognition. The family is now waiting for the postmortem.”

When reached for comment Vensterdorp Police spokeswoman, Colonel Adele Myburgh said that the police are waiting for the results of the post mortem and the forensic tests to better understand what happened.

“At 5 am on Thursday we received a call about a lot of smoke coming from a backroom in Tshing. The police broke down the door and found a 27-year-old burnt inside the room. Unfortunately, the lady died.”

Ventersdorp Police Commander D. Gwala did not provide any further details on the matter and only confirmed that the police are looking into the case.

Khune is reported to be mourning at home in the North West after learning the devastating news.
