Most people think that having a First Class degree or just having perfect academic qualifications automatically guarantees one a job. Well yes to some extent this is so true. However, one should understand that there are more than 50 people out there with the same academic qualifications who are eyeing the same job you are eyeing. In this case, there are certain things that one should do to be outstanding and complement his perfect academic certificates. Below are some of the things
Don’t stop learning
Do not wait to get a job first so that you start self-development. If you have the capacity and chance take some short courses to complement your degree. For example, those who are pursuing a career in business administration can register with IPMZ and acquire professional courses. This will give you an upper hand over those who hold a degree only for when the selection officers decide on who to take between people with equal academic qualifications they will choose one with complimentary professional courses.
Volunteer to offer you services
Some people become permanent employees after they have been offering their services as volunteers. Volunteer to work even for as little as a nut. Or even for nothing for this will increase your experience base. As I always write, it is not your academic qualifications that give you a job but your job experience.
Apply to as many jobs as you can
Do not hesitate to apply for job advertisements. You are not working so apply to any job that comes your way as long as you have the qualifications. Our generation has a tendency of being choosy. If you don’t have a job do not be choosy and take anything you are offered and wait for your desired job while doing something. Don’t worry if you don’t get to be called for interviews for one day you will and even if u get called for the interview and you fail it is okay too for it is good to have a feeling of wanting any interview is. Moreover, it boosts your confidence for future interviews.
Attend job seekers seminars and conferences
Some many seminars are being organised and lectures are being delivered by professional people. If you get the chance you should attend those seminars or public lectures. They help you by giving you an insight on what recruiting personnel look for in an interviewee as well as what to expect in an interview and how to answer interview questions.
Network
We are in an era where your chances of getting a job are increased by who you know. Get yourself self-close to the right people at the right time. Make sure that your circle is filled with people who are employed for they are the ones who may link you up to network with company owners be friendly and respectful. Pride won’t get you anyway.
