It’s not clear what caused the altercation between the two or what the employee did to court the wrath of his employer.

However, the footage has sparked outrage from Zimbabweans in and outside the country who have demanded an investigation into the whole fracas and a possible arrest for assault by the Chinese national, who is yet to be named.

As per Labour Law statues, employers are not allowed to administer corporal punishment to employees for workplace misconduct.

Employees who are accused of misconduct should be brought before a disciplinary hearing and should they be found guilty, they should be be given warnings, including verbal and written ones, a few times before their dismissal.

Should an employee commit a criminal act at the workplace, then the employer can lodge criminal proceedings against him/her at the court of law.

There has been a cold brewing between Chinese nationals who operate businesses in Zimbabwe, with a couple of them being accused of exploitative labor practices, physical abuse of employees and violence against employees.

Last year, a Chinese employer shot 2 Zimbabwean mine workers following a dispute over wages. The employer, identified as Zhang was charged with attempted murder.

Other countries who have accused Chinese nationals of illegal labor practices include Zambian mine workers and a Nigerian undercover journalist also made the same accusations.

The Chinese embassies have from time to time distanced themselves from the perpetrators and have condemned their actions, however it seems to be for naught.
