Job Title: Peace and Cohesion Officer
Job Location: Bulawayo

Introduction

A local organization that works towards unity, peace, justice, and prosperity in Zimbabwe seeks the services of a Project Officer (PO) to support Peace and Cohesion work. The work is part of a bigger programme that covers thematic areas on social cohesion and peacebuilding, inclusive and just economies, active citizenship and good governance, youth empowerment and participation, and disability inclusion. The PO will support the implementation of peace and cohesion initiatives together with related initiatives of the programme. The functions are as specifically detailed below:

Duties and Responsibilities:

I. Programme Development: lead the conceptualization and full development of peace and cohesion initiatives.
II. Support implementation: The officer will support local structures to plan and execute peacebuilding, reconciliation, and conflict resolution initiatives. The officer will always ensure that the project targets are achieved in line with the planned milestones and that the budget burn rate is up to date with the planned cash flow. Develop project implementation tools including weekly/monthly work plans.
III. Technical support: Provide technical support to assistants and local structures towards
enhancing their capacity, particularly on peace and conflict resolution. The PO will work closely with regional coordinators to further develop, widen and deepen understanding of peacebuilding, reconciliation, and conflict sensitivity thematic issues and approaches.
IV. Project Implementation: Support planning, development, and implementation of the peace-building, reconciliation, and conflict sensitivity project.
V. Research, documentation, and evidence building: The PO will conduct regular conflict mapping through consultative processes. Document community and stakeholders’ feedback and share it with relevant stakeholders for appropriate action
VI. Convene High-level expert meetings: The PO will support the convening of high-level dialogue meetings, workshops, and other forums with government representatives, traditional leaders, civil society, and other players to detect, and prevent violent conflict and promote peace and reconciliation.
VII. Monitoring, communication, and reporting: The PO will be expected to lead monitoring, documentation, and effective communication of peace-building work. He/she will work with the communication team to design appropriate mobilization and sensitization messages for the target population.
VIII. Quality and timely reporting: The PO shall ensure the timely submission of project reports as per requirements.
IX. Coordination and Networking: The PO will represent the organization at relevant functions as may be requested by the Supervisor from time to time.

Expected Qualifications:

 A person of good behaviour, integrity, and team-oriented,
 A highly innovative, committed, hardworking, and versatile individual with good analytical skills and the ability to think strategically,
 Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the key peace and cohesion issues and trends in Zimbabwe with a particular focus on the Matabeleland region.
 Minimum of at least two years experience in peace-building work, demonstrating an ability to plan, implement, conduct research, monitor, evaluate and support learning,
 A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Peacebuilding or closely related fields;
 Fluency in written and spoken English, Ndebele, and Shona.
