The Chinhoyi University of Technology Council is inviting suitably qualified and experienced applicants to fill a senior position which has arisen at the institution. The Pro-Vice Chancellor in charge of Innovation, Enterprise Development and Industrialisation is a new position in the Vice Chancellor’s Office. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership and direction in the University’s innovation, enterprise development and industrialisation drive. The successful applicant will help meet the academic and operational needs of the University and ensure a coherent, coordinated and sustainable approach to the University support services. Working collaboratively with other members of the University’s senior management, the Pro Vice Chancellor Innovation, Enterprise Development and Industrialisation will have the responsibility for the smooth and effective running of the University, transforming strategic plans into operational deliverables and ensuring the long-term survival of the Institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the position is strategic to the attainment of the University’s Vision and Mission. The successful applicant will be responsible for;
-Developing structures that support the University's innovation, enterprise development and industrialisation agenda in line with Education 5.0.
-Supervising and coordinating the development and operations of the University's Innovation Hub and Industrial Park.
-Overseeing of and providing strategic direction to the Innovation Hub and Industrial Park and setting performance targets for their operations.
-Overseeing the protection of innovations through intellectual property (IP). That is, seeing to the registering of patents, trademarks and copyrights of companies, goods and services with the relevant authorities.
-Spearheading the creation of start-ups, spin-offs and joint ventures and overseeing the operations of these entities.
-Developing, implementing and monitoring policies that support and promote innovation, product development, enterprise development and industrialisation among staff, students and external partners in line with the University Strategic Plan.
-Integrating quality assurance systems into all innovation, enterprise development and industrialisation programmes and ensuring compliance with statutes.
-Providing leadership and strategic direction and working with Schools / Institutes in fostering innovation, enterprise development and operations of the University's innovation Hub and Industrial Park.
-Compiling reports on innovation, enterprise development and industrialisation programmes to both internal and external stakeholders.
-Chairing and attending University committee meetings and working groups as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should have the following;
-An earned Doctorate combined with a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in University or in industry as well as a sound track-record as an innovative, technopreneurial and hands-on academic at a minimum level of Associate Professor. Industrial experience and proof of having registered at least a commercialised patent is an added advantage.
-A demonstrated and distinguished acumen to provide practical solutions to problems to be addressed by Vision 2030 of the Republic of Zimbabwe,
-A successful track-record in devising and implementing strategic change and strategic growth, as well as driving organisational effectiveness,
-Evidence of networking and collaborating successfully with external partners (locally and globally),
A track record and or demonstrable ability in successfully leading and managing a large and diverse staff compliment especially in a profit-making environment,
-Experience in forging academic, research and innovation partnerships with national and international universities, science council sand the private sector,
-Ability to mobilize material and financial resources to drive the University’s research, innovation and industrialisation agenda in promoting the production of value-added goods and services.
