The proposed project seeks to contribute to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates through improved access to maternal health care for communities in Nkayi district. The objectives of the project look at improving access and utilization of maternal health services in the district and promoting optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding practices amongst caregivers in Nkayi district. This will contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality. In addition, the project will build the capacity of Ministry of Health nurses, ward nutrition coordinators and village health workers to support optimal infant and young child feeding.
International Medical Corps is therefore seeking qualified candidates for this project. The positions are contingent upon funding being received from the donor. The incumbents will be based in Nkayi District and will be working closely with relevant ministries in Matabeleland province.
The Nutrition Officer will implement all Nutrition and health program activities within the district. S/he is responsible for overall implementation of all health and nutrition activities in the district. The incumbent is responsible for assessing knowledge gaps amongst district staff and community volunteers and conduct trainings when necessary. She will represent IMC at district meetings and coordinate all field visits. The Nutrition Officer will serve as the focal Nutrition Officer for International Medical Corps at district level.
Support the VHWs to support the establishment of mother support groups for pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 years; Support the integration of nutrition into health care services amongst district MOHCC and community level health workers; Facilitate the planning and implementation of IYCF and growth monitoring trainings; Coordinate with local authorities and communities to support the construction of Maternity mothers waiting shelters.
Degree in Nutrition or Public Health is essential; Experience in facilitating nutrition trainings for varying stakeholders is desired; 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role with a Humanitarian organization; Highly motivated and able to adhere to deadlines; Extensive experience and knowledge in IYCF and GMP; Ability to work in a multi-sectoral team set-up with a diversity of skills and cultural backgrounds; Proven experience in project management, including financial management, human resources, project writing and reporting; Ability to work under pressure, with high technical delivery; Ability to travel and work in rural conditions; Previous demonstrated experience in working with MoHCC or other technical government bodies; Excellent report writing skills.
