Kutsaga Research, a globally recognized center for scientific excellence, invites applications for the position of Head of Genetics, Biotechnology, And Bioinnovations Group (formerly Plant Breeding Division). The successful candidate will join our esteemed institute and play a pivotal role in advancing agricultural research and development.
The Head of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Bioinnovations Group, will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of agricultural research. His/her responsibilities will include:
Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to a team of technical staff, including Plant Breeders, Biotechnologists, and Agronomists.
Research and Development: Lead cutting-edge research in genetics, biotechnology, and bioinnovations. Develop and implement innovative approaches to crop improvement.
Crop Breeding: Spearhead the breeding of economically viable varieties of Nicotiana spp., Cannabis spp., and other economically viable alternative crops to tobacco. Focus should be on enhancing yield, disease resistance, and quality traits.
Collaboration: Collaborate with national and international research institutions, universities, and industry partners to drive impactful research and technology transfer.
Capacity Building: Mentor and develop the skills of junior scientists and research staff within the group.
Qualification: At least a Master’s Degree: MSc in Plant Breeding/Genetics/,
Biotechnology, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in genetics, crop breeding, and biotechnology research.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of molecular breeding techniques, genomics, and biotechnological tools.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive research excellence.
Innovation: Passion for exploring novel solutions and contributing to sustainable agriculture.
3. Reporting Structure
This position (Head of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Bioinnovations Group) will report directly to the Executive Director - Research, Development, and Extension.
