JF Kapnek Mission is to improve family health, reduce child mortality and create educational opportunity for the children of Zimbabwe through the implementation of scalable, sustainable programs. The JF Kapnek Vision is a Zimbabwe free of HIV wherein all children are protected and have access to health and equal educational opportunities, regardless of income, gender, location, race, religion, ability or any other factor.
Established in 1986, the JF Kapnek Trust is a registered non-profit making organisation (PVO 1/86) implementing among other programs an Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD) programme in Mashonaland West Province (Zvimba, Mhondoro Ngezi, Chegutu and Sanyati) with the overall goal of improving access to community based early child development services. Utilising the existing ECD centres at schools as entry points, the IECD programme provides holistic and comprehensive services through early stimulation, school based health assessments and supplementary feeding. These are complemented by interventions aimed at improving the home and school learning environments which include the ECD infrastructure renovations, positive parenting initiatives, capacity building of ECD teachers and support to community based child protection systems. Above the direct benefits to the ECD children, these interventions provide much-needed relief for the extended families that care for many of these orphaned or vulnerable children and allow teen girls to attend school, rather than to stay at home to care for their young relatives.
Information management systems play a critical role in ensuring that JF Kapnek Trust’s work on ECD is demonstrated using evidence that is demonstrated in real time thus enabling the organasaton to be responsive to the needs of its beneficiaries.
