Project background
The proposed project seeks to contribute to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates through improved access to maternal health care for communities in Nkayi district. The objectives of the project look at improving access and utilization of maternal health services in the district and promoting optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding practices amongst caregivers in Nkayi district. This will contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality. In addition, the project will build the capacity of Ministry of Health nurses, ward nutrition coordinators and village health workers to support optimal infant and young child feeding.
International Medical Corps is therefore seeking qualified candidates for this project. The positions are contingent upon funding being received from the donor. The incumbents will be based in Nkayi District and will be working closely with relevant ministries in Matabeleland province.

Role Purpose
The Construction Officer is responsible for forecasting, planning, coordinating, directing and monitoring the activities of construction, and to a lesser extent, maintenance works to ensure that jobs are completed on time and within project budget and specification. The Construction Officer will also ensure that all applicable building, safety codes, and regulations are observed. S/he is responsible for overall implementation of all construction activities and achieving the objectives defined in the operation proposals.

Primary Responsibilities
Oversee the implementation of Waiting Mothers’ Shelters that s/he is responsible for, within the set technical specifications and planned timeframe; Monitor construction works on regular basis to check and ensure materials and implementation quality; Monitor the efficient use of resources provided and support to brief the contractors; Validate the adjustment of expenditures in line with BoQ and potential additional work; Ensure that standard of the implemented structure are in line with the Zimbabwe MoHCC guidelines and if necessary propose adjustment or improvements to guarantee a high standard; Arrange for procurement, delivery and storage of locally available building materials and liaise with the teams Logistics Officer to ensure a timely supply chain of building supplies is established, drawing on work planning to make sure that adequate timelines for procurement and delivery are factored in to project timelines; Adherence to the requirements of the Zimbabwe CBFRM guidelines & procedures. The employee will implement and take part in activities in line with the CBFRM guidelines.

Candidate Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent qualifications from a recognized tertiary institution; Have sound Knowledge of building codes and regulations; Have knowledge of safety procedures relative to construction/facilities maintenance; Have knowledge of the varied types of construction equipment/tools; Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Have at least 3 years’ experience in construction/civil work projects.
